Questions about Los Cabos?

My family is trying to pick a spot to go for vacation this year are we were wondering about Los Cabos. What would the weather be in Late July/August?
Is there good snorkeling?
Where are the good beaches and which hotels are around them?
We would want to either do a vacation package through Alaskan Air or Travelocity so which hotels of those would you recommend?
We want the trip, for 2 adults and 1 13-year-old to be prefferably around $2,000 but up to $2,500 if it has to be.
We like to snorkel and swim and go to local resteraunts, ect, so the hotel doesnt need to have resteraunts but it would be nice if there was a kitchenette in the room.

If Los Cabos is not good this time of year, are there any other places in Mexico you recommend? We have already been to Cozumel and Puerto Vallarta and don't particularly want to go back. Maybe in the Baja?

The weather will be very hot at that time. The surf is rougher here so there will not be good snorkeling and it is not very kid-friendly. The main beach in cabo has a lot of restaurants but are severely overpriced. I have stayed at the Melia and the Westin which are quite far out of town. Most of the hotels are pretty far out of town and the city itself is much more americanized than pv or cozumel.

I prefer Playa del Carmen or Ixtapa.
